A Way to Swim
Avin huffed as he fell back towards the ground again, hitting the floor with his fist after he was forced to sit on it. He felt like he’d never get this at this rate. Didn’t help that most of everyone around him at his age knew how to use magic. He should have started it already, years behind when most people usually started to practice but he’d just put it off and now he was living in a different part of the forest than his family for most of the year so it’s not like they could teach him.
Sighing, he just tried to brush himself off and try again. He couldn’t let this defeat him, he wanted to know how to use his magic. Even if he didn’t know what he was supposed to be able to do…
Sighing he just walked over to the lake that he’d been trying to practice around. Sitting down next to it he put a finger in the water only to shoot some water back into the lake. Stuff like this was basic, stuff he could probably use to garden if he was so inclined but it didn’t feel like what he was meant to do, what he was capable of. There were people who could fly if they had a steady enough stream of water, those who used their powers for so many interesting things and he was just stuck here with no idea how to use his.
It was frustrating, it really was. Avin just sighed as he slipped himself into the lake, slipping down until just his snout and the area above it peeked out over the water. Would it be better to swim than keep working on something so frustrating? He’d always liked swimming since he’d been a fan of swimming since he was a little sprite begging to go over to the lake any time he and his family went on vacation. It was nice now, to live so close to a pool of water he could swim in all the time.
You know, even if he couldn’t fly in the air wasn’t it a possibility to fly in the water? His element was water, his bubble comprised of just a bit of the sea, at least to make him a faster swimmer… well it always was easier when he had a body of water to work with.
Deciding that something like that would be a good use of his powers he started swimming regularly and after a few moments used the water around him to push him forward faster. Soon he was swimming like a fish, zipping through the water easier than ever before. It wasn’t what he’d planned but it felt better, this way of using his powers felt more like him. Felt more like he could be doing too, more like what he actually could do with his powers. He felt more confident now, even if he couldn't launch himself into the sky he could launch himself through the sea
